What Does Training Involve

Everyone who wants to ride a bike with 'L' plates, must have a CBT certificate.

If you want to remove the 'L' plates you may have two options:-

  • continue training on a 125cc machine and get a full, restricted A2 licence.
  • Direct Access: train on a larger, more powerful bike (we use 500cc bikes) and get a full, unrestricted A licence. (Only available to over 21's)

The A2 licence restricts you to a 33BHP bike for two years (typically a 250cc-350cc bike). After two years, your licence will automatically become an unrestricted licence without you having to take any further tests. Either way, the training we offer will cover every element to make you a safe rider on today's busy roads.

As of the end of April 2009 the test changed slightly. The manoeuvres, that had up until then been carried out as part of the on road practical test, will now be done off-road as a separate "Part 1 Test". This will also include a few additional manoeuvres. The "Part 2 Test" or on road test, will then involve just riding for the duration.

Before booking a course you will have to complete a Motorcycle Theory Test
available at 0300 200 1122, or online at www.dsa.gov.uk

If you use your own bike, please ensure it is road worthy, legal (Taxed, MOT'd and insured), and has 'L' plates clearly visible front and rear.
